Welcome from the President
IKEBANA - Making Flowers Come Alive - is the exquisite art of Japanese flower arranging practiced for more than six hundred years. It is one of the traditional arts of Japan.
Ikebana International was founded in Japan in 1956 by the late Ellen Gordon Allen. Mrs. Allen's dream was to create an organization uniting the peoples of the world through their mutual love of nature and enjoyment of Ikebana. Her dream, today, has spread to over 60 countries with 165 chapters world wide.
The North Canton Chapter 54 was charted by Ikebana International in September, 1961. Chapter 54 membership represents four continents, and one-third of our members come from an international background. Our shared love of flowers unites us, encourages friendships and fosters a growing appreciation of each other's culture.
2011 marks the 50th Anniversary of the founding of Ikebana International Chapter 54.
We are looking forward to the celebration of our golden anniversary on October 7 and 8 in the Wilkof Courtyard of the Canton Museum of Art. This two day celebratory event will include an Ikebana exhibit, Ikebana demonstrations by our members, and an Ikebana make and take workshop for beginners. All events are free and open to the public.
With Friendship through Flowers,
Ikebana International Chapter 54
